Nice long overlap on the joints, wired together at ether end of the adjoining pieces. Wall has rebar at top and bottom, top rebar suspended from wire attached to form top-spacers, C-bent strut provides vertical reinforcement and also positions bottom run of rebar for foundation wall.

The crawlspace access door is formed in on the left. Corner detail on the right with pier extension hole drilled down in the corners to extend into the earth below the footing.

The form for the center footing awaits its rebar. Lots of lateral bracing is installed along the sides to counteract the spreading force once the forms are subject to the weight of the concrete. On the next foundation, we hope to have steel jigs that will fit over the top of the form to provide the necessary form spacing and reinforcement. This will make form assembly and disassembly a lot quicker.

Any questions as to what this piece is? ;^) Labelling can be pretty important. On the right, you see the order of the day. The footing portion of the foundation has an inner and outer run of rebar that at this point is laying on the ground. It needs to be pulled up, wired in place and the ends joined with an overlap of at least 40 times the rebar thickness.

It's Oregon in February, not raining as much as usual, but still enough to make any exposed ground conducive to producing a lot of mud. A really nice layer of woodchips all around helps alleviate the mess, still recommend barn boots though. Cathy Schappert is hard at work with the rake helping get them spread. This will be her house.

Getting to that bottom rebar to pull it up off the ground and into place can be a real pain. We have a really nifty tool made with a golfclub handle and a hook that can reach down there and pull it up where you can reach it. The other order of the day is to get the marks laid out for the J-Bolts that attach the mudsill down to the foundation.

Here's that nifty tool in operation holding the rebar in place so that it can be wired to position. Some more discussion on where the marks for the J-bolts are to be positioned.

Another really nifty tool, sure beats using a hacksaw or bolt cutters any day. Working our way around the foundation.

On the left, you see one of the J-bars that tie the rebar runs in the wall down to the footing runs. On the right, I promise that this is the last you will see of this rebar joint.

And the final lap, the center footing. Break up a couple of concrete cinder blocks and lay the two runs of rebar on top. We're almost ready for the pour, still have things like the vents to take care of..
