On the previous days, the crews marked all the plates out, trimmed the door and window headers to size and framed up the west wall. They left us with a massive do-it-yourself house kit and by the end of the day we should have all the exterior walls framed. We were dealing with a normal March day in Oregon. . .drizzel. Too much rain to be a mist, but not enough to halt operations and if you keep moving, just the right temperature to work.

That's not wax on the floor making that shine. ;^) Keep out of this guy's way. He sews together lumber like you would sew cloth to make a garment. Follow behind with a hammer to sink the nails that airpower didn't quite get, and a wall goes together quite fast!

They're installing the foundation vents. . . and in a very short period of time, this section of the northern wall is nearly ready to push up.

Installing more vents, he's pretty intent on his work, eh? The header for this window is in place on top of the trimmers and well nailed in.

The first section of the south wall is up. Gotta' get that level over there to make sure the wall is true. . .

And it is! The first section of the east wall is up. . .and the first section of the north wall likewise is waiting the level work before being firmly fastened down.

And it's in place. . .the next section is probably the longest one we will raise at one time and is the heaviest as it has the most headers for doors and windows.

And up it goes! Each corner section has to be pried up over the two long J-bolts for the earthquake reinforcement, that's the gap you see between the bottom plate and the flooring in the right photo.

The two wall sections have to be joined together and then everything nailed with 16d sinkers through to the mudsill. Looks like the north wall is in place.

Heavy-duty concentration here on getting the cripple wall up for the window opening. A short section to go and the east wall will be finished.

The last section of the south wall is getting the trimmers and headers for the windows firmly nailed in place. On to the next page. . .
