Four courses of roll roofing are down and about one third of the way across the roof. The starter shingles are going in place and the race with the weather is on!

Here is a closeup of the starter shingles. They are plain shingles reversed so the top uncut side faces out on the gable overhang and the roof overhang. The black line is the tar strip that glues everything together on the first hot day so the wind won't lift the shingle tabs.

The end rafters are firmly fastened. . . now the fascia board can be fastened down.

One final look at the starter shingles and roll roofing. . . Sillouette against a little of the blue sky we'll see today.

The blocking piece of plywood for the porch eve is being fitted in place and the sheeting is halfway nailed down on this side. The roofing shingles start to fly into place.

These metal clips space the roof sheeting and also join it together between the rafters. An air-stapler in operation. The shingles are textured with two layers and have the look of shake roofing instead of plain tabbed shingle roofing.

She's keeping the workflow up, see that shingle sailing out of the frame? . . . And yes they are going on this fast. If we can beat the rain, we'll have a dry place to have lunch.

A closeup to show you the two-layer textured shingles and the overlay on the starter shingles. . . five courses started.

The next courses are started, the shingles are still flying. . . a closeup of the fascia on the other side of the porch. We'd better get the sheeting on this thing, they're starting overtake us on the other side!

The finish plywood is being fitted for the overhang. . . and from here you can see the difference between standard rafter construction with ridge rafter and truss rafter construction.

We'll lose our skylight pretty soon. . . the first courses are nearly finished on the south side.

Neoprene flashing in place on the ventpipe and the trim is being installed on the end rafter.

And here's the progress so far. . . taking a slight breather.

Nearly one half of the porch is sheeted up and the first four courses of roll roofing are started. The clouds are starting to darken and stack up.
